Boudoir is scary, and when things are scary it is easy to make up reasons why we can’t or won’t do them. But I am a very firm believer that boudoir is something that every women should experience, and when these silly reasons women are telling themselves cause them to think they shouldn’t book a shoot it really puts a damper on my day.
So today we are doing a little myth-busting and looking some of the most common excuses that women tell themselves to talk themselves out of booking a boudoir shoot.
Myth: Boudoir Is Only For Women With Flawless Bodies
Ha! Ladies, let me just get this one out of the way up front – NONE of the women that I shoot have flawless bodies. Every woman has aspects about her body that she is not happy with and not comfortable with. A big part about boudoir is embracing that, and moving beyond it, realizing that you are sexy as you are, the sum of all your parts, what you perceive to be good and what you perceive to be bad.
Beyond that though, my style of photography is designed to make hiding problem areas and imperfections easier. So just because you are looking at images on this site where you may feel like the woman looks flawless, just know that just because you can’t see her imperfection doesn’t mean it isn’t there. I work with all of my clients to make sure that problem areas are avoided and that they are always looking their best.
Looks can be deceiving, and the images you see here are the result of flawless planning and photographic technique, not flawless bodies.
Myth: I Don’t Know How To Be Sexy, So I Can’t Do Boudoir
Again, another really common hold up for lots of women, but another total falsity. Let me tell you how it is ladies, NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO BE SEXY. My job as a boudoir photographer is to help guide you through the boudoir shoot to get the emotion and intensity that we need for the images. The process itself is not sexy, the posing can be uncomfortable and repetitive, and you may even be sore afterwords. But look at the images on this site, the images themselves are full of sexy, raw emotion.
So to reiterate. You don’t need to know how to be sexy, you just need to be able to take direction and have an open mind. Leave the rest up to me.
Myth: I Need Extravagant Lingerie To Do Boudoir
Have you seen all the nudes on this site? Joking aside, this one is also something that I hear a lot. Ladies, simple is sexy too, and that can mean a fair of simple cotton panties and a t-shirt. Lingerie is common in boudoir because it shows off all the goodies without leaving much uncovered – but there is so, SO much more that we can do in a boudoir session than just lingerie. So don’t let this stop you, in fact, use it as inspiration to see what simple yet sexy outfits you can come up with using the items already in your closet.
Myth: I Have To Get Naked To Do Boudoir
Following my last joke up with this because I don’t want any of you to get the wrong idea. Nudity is not a requirement, though it is a common and fairly usual part to most of my sessions. That said, I am a photographer that works within the lines drawn for me by my clients, so if you don’t want to get naked, you don’t have to. I won’t pester you about it and there won’t be any awkward discussions about doing things you don’t want to do, if you say no nudes, than there will be no nudes. Simple as that. So don’t psych yourself out about having to get naked, because you don’t have to.
Myth: My Apartment/Home Is Basic, I Can’t Do An In Home Shoot
I get this one all the time as well, and just as with the others, it couldn’t be further from the truth. The whole point of doing an in home boudoir session is capturing you in an intimate way in your environment. It’s about giving the viewer a view into your life beyond just your body, but more of who you are as well. I’ve done shoots in bargain basement 1 bedroom apartments and modern luxury homes worth more than I care to say, we can create some beautiful and stunning boudoir images in any location. So don’t get all self conscience about your home; if you have windows, a bed, and a time when no one else is home than you are set!
Be on the lookout for more of these Boudoir Mythbusting posts from time to time. I hope that this was at least a little informative and helpful to some of you.
