The new year has begun, which for me especially is always a time that I take a look at the year past and use what I have learned to try and chart my way ahead. Not only because it is the new year, but because my birthday being on January 4th, it marks another number added to my age. This year is specifically is special, as I turn 29 on Wednesday, marking the last year of my twenties.
I can’t say that I know how 2017 will turn out, or how my business may evolve over the course of the next twelve months. But I know that I am doing everything in my power to see that things continue on the trajectory I set them on in 2016. I have several shoots throughout January that I am extremely excited for, both here in Portland and up in the Seattle area. In February, right at the beginning, I am happy to say that after a one year break I am heading back to Vegas for WPPI. I am looking forward to meeting up with all of my colleagues and working with several, of them to create some beautiful art. (By the way, if any of you will be in Vegas the 6th through 10th, let me know, I would love to meet up and shoot!)
Beyond February I don’t have many things figured at this point. I have a potential roadtrip that I am thinking about towards the end of March, I really hope it happens. We shall see.
My 2017 Challenge
Each year I like to challenge myself in one aspect of my photography, to choose one thing specifically to focus on and improve on. This year I really want to perfect my black and white look (which is something I have really come to love towards the end of 2016). To do this I plan on focusing the majority of my shooting in 2017 on black and white. Don’t get me wrong, I will still be shooting and delivering color images to my clients, but I am dedicating the focus of my personal work to black and white in 2017.
Some 2017 Goals
Everyone has a goal or two at the start of a new year, so here are a few of my as pertaining to my boudoir photography:
- Print More! Far far too many images dies a quiet death as 1’s and 0’s on a hard drive, and that is just sad. In 2017 I want to print more, and if not for my clients, at least for myself. I would love to put together a print portfolio maybe.
- Get out of the studio more! I have really come to love the in-home look as I attempt to work more lifestyle looks into my portfolio. Shooting in clients homes is a really fun experience, but AirBnB is also a great option I plan to utilize more in 2017.
So let me just close by wishing you all a happy new year, and say that I hope to have a chance to shoot with all of you who are interested. Cheers!
