What to wear to your boudoir photo shoot

What do you wear to a boudoir photo shoot?

Possibly one of my most asked questions by potential clients is regarding what to wear (or not wear for that matter) to their boudoir photo shoot. As far as I see it there are really two ways to answer this; the long way and the short way. In this post I will attempt to answer both for you, so that you can feel confident in your wardrobe choice for your boudoir session.

What To Wear | The Short Answer

The most general and quickest answer regarding what you should wear to your boudoir shoot is this: What do you think is sexy? What do you think the intended viewer of the images thinks is sexy? (be that you or your partner) Once you figure out what you think is sexy you have your answer as far as what you should wear.

In terms of what most of my clients wear; the answer is that the majority of my clients wear some sort of two piece bra and panty set (sometimes a couple different sets of these) and a body suit as well as nothing at all. Since many of my clients opt to do the shoot in their own home we have access to their entire wardrobe so they don’t need to feel like they have to bring a specific number of items to wear. We can just open the closet, so to speak, and go with whatever feels right in that moment.

What To Wear | The Long Answer

The truth is that what you wear to your boudoir photo shoot is entirely based upon your comfort level and what you find sexy – but also going further, into what you FEEL sexy in. Because let’s be honest, you may think a lingerie set is sexy, but you may not think it would look sexy on you or you may not be comfortable wearing it yourself. So this is where the planning for your wardrobe comes into play; the first piece of it all is that you do need to sit down and decide what you are comfortable with.

I also don’t limit the number of outfits and wardrobe that you can use during our session. So you can change as many or as few times as you want within the allotted timeframe for your boudoir photo session. That said, as a general guideline usually recommend the following for my clients:

  • If you are comfy with nudity: If you are comfy with nudity I usually suggest to prepare 2-3 outfit options knowing that at some point during the shooting we will likely transition from clothing to nudes.
  • If you are NOT comfy with nudity: If you are not comfortable with the idea of getting naked at your boudoir session than I usually recommend that you prepare 4-5 outfit options for your session. This gives us plenty of options and variety to get a good mix of shots without spending too long on any one outfit.

The next thing to consider is your own insecurities about your body. What parts of yourself are you wanting to highlight, or what parts of yourself are you trying to minimize or hide. I am a huge believer in loving your body and that you are beautiful just the way that you are; but that does not change the fact that everyone has insecurities about something. So your wardrobe and styling choices should take those insecurities into account.

For example; if you are really self-conscious about your midsection, than I would not advise selecting a two piece bra/panty set for your session. That is unless you plan on using high wasted panties that cover the area you are self-conscious about, or if you are wanting to embrace your insecurity, rather than avoiding it.

A great choice for someone who relates to the example above would be to choose to wear a body suit of some kind because it is a garment that will still look sexy but that does help to obscure and cover the midsection that you are trying to deemphasize at this photo shoot.

Another example would be if you are someone who thinks they have a really nice bum, and who wants to highlight that during their boudoir photo shoot. In this case you will want to make outfit selections that highlight your rear end rather than hide it. This means underwear like thongs or cheeky panties that either leave it completely uncovered or that shape it in a way that is pleasing to you. Again, body suits are also usually a great option here as they usually do an excellent job of highlighting your bum without you feeling too exposed elsewhere.

The above answers should help you get pointed in the general direction of what to think about when selecting your boudoir session wardrobe. But if you are someone that needs more help or who is looking for specific ideas than this is the section you will want to pay attention to.

If you would like my personal help in selecting your boudoir session wardrobe than I have three session add-on options for you to potentially take advantage of:

  • 2-Hour Guided Shopping ($150): Pick a day, Pick a time and we will go to some of my favorite local lingerie boutiques, or we can hit up the more general places you may be familiar with like VS. We will go and I will guide you through the shopping process, give you my opinion on pieces that you are considering and generally help you decide on what to get for your session.
  • 2-Hour Closet Deep Dive ($100): Pick and day and Pick a time; I will come over and we can go through your closet, having a look at your lingerie or other wardrobe options that you are thinking you may like to incorporate into your session. I will give you my opinion and help you choose which pieces will have you looking your best.
  • The Personal Shopper ($400): This is for those of you who really want more than just help, you want someone to take care of it for you. Basically for this you will give me your sizes, tell me what sort of styles, colors, and cuts you generally like (as well as any ideas you have and insecurities that I need to be aware of) and I will go out and find you a selection of outfits to wear during your boudoir session; buy them for you and bring them with me to your session. So you get your session and also get to come out of it with some great new lingerie chosen just for you.
